MSc NeurosciencesUniversität Bremen
Kurzbeschreibung & Facts
Neurosciences are a fascinating and increasingly important field, combining biology, physics, chemistry, informatics, engineering, medicine, and psychology. This Master's program in Neurosciences in Bremen is distinguished by its integration of experimental and theoretical concepts with practical applications. The program has been enhanced with new modules in computer science and computational neuroscience, fostering interdisciplinary approaches and aligning with the research focus on 'Minds, Media and Machines' at the University of Bremen. Students can specialize in either experimental or computational neuroscience by choosing between Laboratory Animal Sciences or Advanced Programming and Data Analysis modules at the end of the first semester.
The program offers a highly interdisciplinary approach, teaching students to apply current neuroscientific research methods in areas such as molecular biology, optogenetics, synthetic biology, electrophysiology, medical imaging, and neurophysiology. Students will gain skills in analyzing and interpreting multivariate data and biosignals, and in modeling neural systems through computer simulations. Collaboration with departments of Physics/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Mathematics, and Psychology allows for specialization in applied neuroscience fields like brain-computer interfaces, bio-inspired hardware and software, and neurotechnology research. Emphasis is placed on practical training in both experimental techniques and quantitative methods for analyzing brain function.
Upon graduation, students will be equipped to:
- Understand and apply current neuroscientific research methods.
- Apply methods for measuring and influencing neurophysiological data.
- Analyze and interpret multivariate data and biosignals.
- Identify and analyze neuronal circuits.
- Critically analyze ethical questions in Neurosciences.
- Understand information-processing mechanisms of the brain and their pathologies.
- Recognize cognitive performance and behavior as a consequence of neural information processing.
- Formulate and test hypotheses about neural mechanisms underlying cognitive processes.
- Create and analyze models of neuronal circuits and networks.
- Independently plan, conduct, and present research projects.
- Communicate research approaches and results in an interdisciplinary environment.
- Collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
- Present research in public outreach projects.
