The work-study MA Dance Teacher Programme is designed for professional dancers and dance teachers who want to enhance their skills in various roles such as dance teachers and ballet masters. It is suitable for those working in professional training institutions, community dance, dance companies, or theaters. A specialisation in "Dance Teacher for Community Dance" is available for candidates without a professional dance career if they demonstrate equivalent aptitude.
Students can choose to focus on either Ballet or Contemporary/Modern Dance. They can also specialise as Ballet Master/Rehearsal Director, Dance Teacher in professional training, or Dance Teacher in Community Dance. This interdisciplinary course covers subjects such as dance pedagogy, methodology, didactics, dance history, dance medicine, psychology, teaching practice, rehearsal assistance, improvisation, Laban, and composition.
A unique aspect of the program is the opportunity to work with approximately 150 dancers aged 10 to 20 at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden. These dancers are proficient in ballet, contemporary dance, and improvisation. The university emphasizes cross-pollination between the Teacher Training and Choreography Programme. The Palucca University of Dance has a global artistic network due to its numerous partnerships.
The MA Dance Teacher Programme can be completed in 3 years, but its flexible design allows students to finish it in less time. The program is taught in English, with the Dance Medicine module offered in both German and English. Oral and written exams can be taken in German upon request.
The program requires the acquisition of 120 ECTS credits.
