Marine Microbiology (Master)Universität Bremen
Kurzbeschreibung & Facts
The Master's program in Marine Microbiology focuses on the fundamental importance of microorganisms in the ocean for a sustainable biosphere, their influence on the environment and climate, and their key functions in global elemental cycles. The study aims to provide students with advanced knowledge in marine microbiology and molecular ecology, enabling them to find innovative solutions for environmental problems and contribute to fundamental marine science. The curriculum covers theoretical and practical aspects of analyzing, describing, and understanding microbial networking, element cycles, biogeochemistry, and the consequences of microbial activity in the oceans. The program includes lectures, tutorials, practical courses, laboratory rotations, workshops, and seminars. After completing the Master's thesis, graduates can pursue a PhD program and join research groups at cooperating institutes.
- Major Fields: Marine sciences, microbiology, biochemistry & microbial physiology, molecular biology, molecular ecology, microbial symbioses, chemical ecology, marine biogeochemistry, element cycles, ocean biosphere dynamics, bioinformatics & microbial genomics.
- Practical components include course-accompanying practical exercises and three lab rotations in different fields of marine sciences.
- Study abroad is available upon request and with cooperating research institutions.
- Subsequent occupational fields for graduates include universities, administration, industry, medicine, consulting companies, associations, environmental organizations, and further education.
- The program prepares students for a PhD.
