The four-semester Master's degree programme in conducting or ensemble conducting can be studied with different specializations: Orchestral Conducting / Wind Ensemble Conducting, Choral Conducting or Ensemble Conducting (Guitar). The focus is on developing interpretations of works for orchestra/choir and large ensembles and making them ready for performance. Practical aspects of this work include conducting technique, rehearsal technique, listening skills, imagination and shaping orchestral sound, communication skills, and leadership skills.

Since 2005, the Trossingen University of Music has been offering the subject of wind orchestra conducting, which can now be studied as a secondary profile in the Bachelor's degree programme, and then again as a focus in the Master's degree programme "Orchestral Conducting." The aim is to offer students a further professional perspective in the field of conducting wind ensembles in addition to the qualification to teach and to make music.

For regular practical work, a cooperation model with the Baden-Württemberg State Police Orchestra (Landespolizeiorchester Baden-Württemberg) was created in 2017. Conducting practice can thus be gained regularly with a professional ensemble. Classes at the University take place in close contact with the members of the orchestra. The students are supervised by professors of the University as well as by the principal conductor of the Baden-Württemberg State Police Orchestra (honorary professor at the University).

To ensure the quality and further development of the programme, the orchestra office supervises the range of courses. In addition, regular meetings take place between the professors of the Univeristy and the chief conductor of the Baden-Württemberg State Police Orchestra.
