The Bachelor's programme in Music Education – Voice and Instruments (IGP) is designed to provide students with highly qualified musical, educational, and scientifically oriented vocational preparation for their chosen instruments. The programme caters to musicians from diverse musical and stylistic genres, fostering an interdisciplinary environment to prepare students comprehensively for the demands of their chosen professional fields.

Graduates will receive a recognized teaching qualification, enabling them to work in music schools, in cooperation with general schools, at universities, colleges, and other post-secondary or tertiary educational institutions, as well as teaching on a freelance basis.

The IGP Bachelor’s programme encompasses musical, educational, scientific, and practical fields of study. It aims to develop the following skills:

  • Teaching to be a concert musician with a musical role model function.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, monitoring, and evaluating learning and teaching situations.
  • Musical-educational methods for developing pupils’ musical potential.
  • Teaching and communication skills, including the creation of cooperative and collaborative learning environments, considering cognitive, physical, social, and musical development.
  • Self-reflection and self-evaluation for ongoing further development and training.
  • Management training.
  • Promotion of creative processes within the overall social context.

The training emphasizes the development of individual musical-educational potential with a strong connection between theory and practice. Practical professional lessons are conducted in cooperation with the Music Schools of the City of Vienna.

Allgemeines zum Instrumentalpädagogik Studium

Das Studium der Instrumentalpädagogik bietet eine solide Grundlage für das Vermitteln musikalischer Techniken und Konzepte an junge Musiker*innen. Es ist ein praxisorientiertes Studium, das die Entwicklung von kompetenten Musiklehrer*innen im Instrumentalunterricht ermöglicht.

Im Rahmen des Instrumentalpädagogik Studiengangs werden die Studis in der Erstellung von Unterrichtsplänen, in der Entwicklung von Techniken für die Lehre im Klassenzimmer und im Einsatz technischer Unterrichtsmethoden unterrichtet. Darüber hinaus erwerben die Studierenden Fähigkeiten für das Verständnis von Musiktheorie, Harmonie und Arrangement, um ihren Schüler*innen eine umfassende musikalische Ausbildung zu geben.
